THE LAST KNOCK presents: Monster Mania

The Last Knock

This March, we traveled to Monster Mania at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill, NJ. We share the stories of our horror filled excursion from vendors to guests, and why this convention for fans of the genre is one of the very best on the east coast. And yes, we talk about food, cosplayers, and even the trouble with bootleg DVDs. Take a monster walk on the mania side and find out what you missed…

  1. Love this episode. “Has-beens?” Hardly. I went to a Nashville horror con Easter weekend where I met Naomi Grossman (Pepper from AHS), Linnea Quigley (ROTLD), Michael Berryman, Amanda Bearse (FRIGHT NIGHT/MARRIED WITH CHILDREN), and Dick Warlock (HALLOWEEN 2). Of those, the majority are still working.

The funny thing is, I tend to have that wide-eyed awe at cons that you guys describe of first-timers, even if I’ve been there before. I’ve been to FanBoy Expo in Knoxville several times now, but when Chris Sarandon (FRIGHT NIGHT/CHILD’S PLAY) showed up there last fall I was all wide-eyed (FN is my favorite vampire movie) and tongue-tied.

    I love a con, I guess that’s all I’m trying to say here. 🙂

    1. That’s awesome, Isaac! The original FRIGHT NIGHT is such a blast. I so wish Roddy McDowell was still with us (and for THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE as well). Regardless, I wish I had been with you in Nashville!

Thanks so much for listening in!

    2. I would love to meet Linnea and Berryman sometime, but they don’t seem to hit the East-Coast cons. Naomi Grossman has done MM/Chiller before, but I’ve missed her each time.

I do enjoy the familiarity of something like MM, where the volunteers excel at keeping things orderly and organized, and the fans are treated with respect. While I’ve grown familiar with a lot of the “regulars” in the vendor’s room, I still love looking over (and often spending too much money on) their wares. It really is Christmas for the horror fan each time.

As an aside, my best friend met Sarandon (he also loves the original FRIGHT NIGHT) at a MM con. (As a further aside, I just saw him in 1976’s LIPSTICK, and…wow, he plays one of the most loathsome characters I’ve ever seen in a movie.)

      1. Bill, you and Jonny Numb are the coolest.
The Residents are wild! Some creepy, sacry stuff, too. They’ll be playing in Little Five Points in Atlanta. The venue is an old theater from the mid 1900s. Have a burger at The Vortex before the show…killer burgers. Amber’s on them now.
Dang, it would be nice to chat with Zoey Bell…she rocks.
